Process
The Illumina Individual Genome Sequencing (IGS) service process is simple to follow. Begin by consulting with your doctor or medical geneticist. Once you have decided that IGS is the right course of action, your doctor will request an IGS for you.
Sample Collection
Genome sequencing requires both saliva and blood samples. The actual sequencing is performed on DNA extracted from the blood sample. The saliva sample is used to verify the identity of the blood sample and for quality control purposes. The saliva sample must be given in the doctor’s presence. If a saliva sample cannot be obtained, your doctor should contact us to make other arrangements.
Analysis
Once we receive your samples, they are processed confidentially in our
CLIA-certified, CAP-accredited clinical laboratory facility. We use validated laboratory procedures to read and assemble your individual genome sequence.
Time Frame
Your Individual Genome Sequence results are returned to your doctor within 90 days. Once your doctor has received the results, additional analysis will be required to answer the specific health questions relevant to your care. It is not possible to predict how long this second, more targeted analysis may take.
Cost
Three different pricing programs are currently available. Please contact us if you are unsure for which program you are eligible.
- IGS for Preventive care genome sequencing: $9,500
- IGS for Medically relevant genome sequencing: $7,500*
- IGS for Cancer patient sequencing: 2 for $10,000**
* Reduced price for medically indicated cases is subsidized by Illumina. Eligibility is determined through submission of an application form and subsequent approval by the internal Illumina Clinical Advisory Board.
** 2 for $10,000 price is for a tumor-normal pair.
