PGNet Overview
The Illumina Personal Genomics Network (PGNet) is a group of doctors and healthcare professionals experienced in genomics and familiar with the Illumina Individual Genome Sequencing (IGS) process. PGNet has been established to increase patient and doctor access to knowledgeable counsel.
At this time, data from Illumina’s IGS service is presented as a consensus sequence along with a list of identified variants. Interpretation is quite complicated and limited by current knowledge of disease-causing and associated variants, as well as by genotype-phenotype relationships.
Regardless of interpretive tools, sequence data also requires a clinical context to help guide appropriate integration into a patient’s health plan. IGS is only one part of the story. Thus, we at Illumina feel strongly that individual genome sequencing should only be provided within the clinical context of the patient-doctor relationship.
Are you looking for a clinician?
We have a growing network of specialty clinicians across the country. Contact us to see if there is an experienced PGNet clinician in your area.
Are you a clinician looking to learn more?
For clinicians who do not yet have expertise in sequence interpretation, but wish to order IGS for their patients, educational modules and other support will soon be available as well as access to the PGNet clinician expertise. These educational programs are under development with plans to be released later this year.
